Welcome to STEVEN CERIO’s HAPPYHOMELAND- the official portfolio site for psychedelic artist, animator, poster artist, photographer, animator, and freelance artist Steven Cerio……… that’s me. I’m also a working gallery artist, graphic designer, freelance illustrator and character designer. My work has been described as strange cute, twee, trippy, surreal, fantasy, visionary, cute, new age, strange, bizarre, psychedelic, weird, low brow, silly and happy….which you can soon for yourself.

I’ve created graphics and posters for various groups and venues since the late eighties. The POSTER PAGE is a collection of 30 of my favorites. Included are jazz and rock gig posters and other posters from various talks and gallery showings of my work as well. You can expect to find posters for acts including Moe, The Residents, Les Claypool, William Parker, Semisonic, Matthew Shipp, Yonder Mountain String Band, Dragibus, King Crimson, The Unicorns, Frank Zappa, Negativland, Atlantic Drone Quartet and more.

The PSYCHEDELIC PAGE is a showcase for my psychedelic and trippy work usually reserved for galleries. Also included are pieces from my book “Steven Cerio’s ABC Book-A Drug Primer” which features illustrations of various drugs including lsd, marijuana, dmt, weed, mu(shrooms), ecstasy and various other hallucinations and psychedelia.

The SKETCHBOOK PAGE is dedicated to my looser, sketchier multimedia work. The pieces I chose for this page are gallery pieces and various sketches for larger and “tighter” work. This is some silly stuff!

The BRUSH AND INK PAGE displays my drawings done in my favorite media “brush and ink.” Gallery pieces and illustrations alike find a comfy black and white home here.

The HYBRID PAGE is a 30 piece portfolio of my cross pollinated original digital photography, sculpture and painting. I think you will find these pieces a bit moodier in content than my other work. Enjoy the hidden imagery as it reveals itself to you!

I’ve created graphics for a list of clients that includes Nickelodeon, Disney Adventures, A&M records, Warner Bros, Guitar World, Vibe, Village Voice and Entertainment weekly amongst many others. I’ve displayed some favorites of mine on the ILLUSTRATION PAGE. The KIDSTUFF PAGE is a selection of my published and unpublished children’s book illustrations done in various media. If you like friendly and whimsical images of whales, cats, chickens, worms, bees, bunnies, elephants and giraffes…..then visit the Kidstuff Page!

The Happyhomeland ANIMATION PAGE features various stills and animations including a few brand new shorts and loops born anew into flash by Tim Paulman. The splash page from the last incarnation of happyhomeland by Scot Connor of Glory Arts is included as well. The stills and character designs displayed are from films/animations I created with San Francisco’s legendary blink-less eyed group The Residents for their DVD’s “Disfigured Night”, “Commercial DVD”, “Bad Day at the Midway” and “Icky Flix,” with director John Payson and animators Rich Shupe and Jim Ludtke.

I use a visually intensive approach to my BLOG PAGE. It is loaded it with images of my newest projects, flea market toy finds, sketchbook snippets and photographs. I just began my blog in Dec 2005 and plan on loading it continuously with new goodies: weird stories, dream journals, interviews, essays on what passes through my life at the drawing table and other stuff to make you smile.

The LISTEN PAGE is dedicated to my music performed with my current groups Atlantic Drone Quartet, Lettuce Little and Small Girl Boils Water. Fans of psychedelic music, progressive rock, jam bands, acid jazz, space rock and fans of Soft Machine, old Pink Floyd and King Crimson might enjoy these free downloads of tunes.

The READ PAGE is a large collection of interviews. It begins with interviews and articles about my art written for Juxtapoz magazine, Seconds magazine and various websites. The second section is a collection of interviews I conducted for Seconds magazine when I was associate editor there in the mid nineties. Included are quotable interviews with Yes and King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford, Zappa alumnus Terry Bozzio and art giants H.R. Giger, Frank Frazzetta, Joe Coleman and Robert Williams among many more.

The CONTACT PAGE is a platform to contact me by phone or email. Contact me by email with questions about my work or products.
